People who consistently achieve their goals appear to be lucky. But in reality, chance plays a minor role. We all know people who have constructed successful and happy lives from all walks of life and from all backgrounds, even starting with two white hands. Of course, some people have better starting points than others.<br />What distinguishes individuals who always succeed from those who constantly encounter challenges and obstacles? You can tell who knows how to get what they want from others by looking at them (as I typically do). If my wife, who comes from a very good home, doesn&#39;t concentrate on her goals, she won&#39;t be where she is now. People still occasionally compliment her on her lifestyle and work choices, to which she politely but emphatically responds: &quot;Lucky? There is no connection to chance. I had that in mind.<br />And you&#39;re right. She had always known she wanted to have a job that would work for her family, old house in the country, dogs, animals, and kids. Please allow me to add one more item. She had the chance to freelance before we met, which was eight years before the birth of our first child. She seized the chance because she anticipated wanting children in the future and reasoned, &quot;This is the career I&#39;ll need eventually when I have a baby.&quot; It makes sense why she doesn&#39;t want to be viewed as &quot;fortunate&quot; to have a job she can work from home.<br />My wife&#39;s strategy wasn&#39;t particularly original. It&#39;s doable by anyone. You too can succeed. Ignore luck; if it chooses to stick around for a while, that&#39;s nice, but you can survive without it. Knowing what you want and then how to attain it are both crucial. That is what this book is about.
