To the student of the origins of Christianity there is naturally no period of Western history of greater interest and importance than the first century of our era. &nbsp;With the exception of Christ, many consider Apollonius of Tyana is the most interesting personage that appears upon the stage of Western history in those early years.<br />But who was Apollonius of Tyana? A mystic, philosopher, wandering Pythagorean teacher. He hailed from the town of Tyana in the Roman province of Cappadocia in Asia Minor.<br /><br />There is practically no collection about his philosophy and even some basic principles are not agreed by researchers.&nbsp;<br />First published in 1901, &quot;Apollonius of Tyana&quot; by George Robert Stowe Mead is a book about one of the most controversial philosopher of ancient culture, but as a mystic and a wanderer, Apollonius does not suit to the status of common philosopher, like Plato or Aristotle. It is especially interesting to read about the speculations of his trips to India and perhaps also to Nepal.
