To deal with a question like this was a serious matter. It is unnecessary to relate how the writer finally came to under take such a task. He can only say that he has endeavoured to carry out, to the best of his power, what seemed to be given him to do, and that he trusts that, in spite of all short comings in execution, what he has written may be found to bear genuine, if imperfect, witness for the truth.
