Many persons do not know their own names. They know the names their parents gave them in child hood, the naines which people use in addressing them, but they do not know the names people use when speaking of them. Sooner or later every one has some other name than the one of his childhood. In ah cient Athens the street boys used to say when they saw Aristides, There goes 'the Just.' So in Babylon, they called Alexander The Great, and in Rome, Nero The Cruel.
