Without attempting anything like a complete analysis Of this celebrated Catechism, it may not be improper brie?y to glance at its contents, and the manner in which they are arranged. The general division of the Catechism is into five heads, which treat respectively of Faith, The Law, Prayer, The Word of God, and the Sacraments. The first head, viz., faith, after laying down the funda mental principles, that the chief end of human existence is to know God so as to confide in him, and that this know ledge is to be found only in Christ, contains an exposition of The Apostles' Creed, which, for this purpose, is divided into four parts; the first relating to God the Fat-her, the second to. Christ the Son, the third to The Holy Spirit, and the fourth to The Church, and the divine blessings bestowed upon her.
