So far as regards the adoption of the com bination of stars and stripes, the same asser tion can be safely made. As to the origin of each this research, it is hoped, will prove conclusively, first, that colored stripes repre senting a combination for a common pur pose were used nearly two hundred years before the Declaration of Independence.
