To use a dictionary, directory, encyclopaedia, or similar book of reference, one must know the order of the letters of the alphabet, a knowledge which modern methods of teaching reading have neglected. An endeavor has been made in this book to supply such knowledge if it is wanting and to strengthen it if it is weak.
