During the past few years this game has grown rapidly in popularity, as also improved materially in its points of interest. It has withstood all competition as the most pleasing lawn sport and invigorating, health-giving exercise. Successive efforts have been made in various parts of this country to have enacted a' code Of rules which shall be received as Of authority, and which might represent the highest style Of play. The game has very naturally divided into two sorts, viz., the loose and the tight games. The peculiarities are marked and well defined, each style having its respective adherents.
