The Royal Victoria Hotel was built by the Government in 1860, to meet the de mands of invalids and others seeking to avail themselves of the peculiar advantages offered by Nassau for a winter residence, and neither pains nor expense was spared in answering the requirements of the most modern and scientific theories of archi tecture.
