Opie Percival Read was an American journalist and humorist.

Before 1887 he has been an editor of 5 Southern newspapers. 

As a novelist, Read is credited with bringing the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute" although the phrase seems to have been in verbal use before this and is often credited to P.T. Barnum.
