According to our proof in section 2, the question in the conversion of Paul is, in the main, not the logical understanding of a truth but a new creation, a religious and moral innovation. An episode in his life, which radically transformed the contents of his thought and volition; an elementary ex perience for whose description Paul catches at the highest comparison possible, this his mind did not produce. The consciousness of obligation to serve Christ with body and life, with all his thoughts and powers, with giving up his own ego, did not Spring from a logical process. The moral ideal of life which he henceforth followed instead of the Pharisaical, as well as his apostolic calling.
