In a few instances city libraries have been opened to coun try and village people. In many small towns and villages small subscription libraries, open a few hours in the week, have a precarious existence. In several states circulating libraries afford some relief. But none of these minister to the country people in a way or to an extent to be compared with the service which the large and well-endowed public libraries render city people.
