Some distance above West Point there runs into the river a neck of land curving towards the south. It is covered with large oaks and elms, and though now bare and desolate, presents in summer a tangled mass of waving foliage. The small bay be tween this peninsula and the main-land is almost entirely filled with tremulous rushes, exposed at low tide beneath the water is a thick growth of tangled sea-weed.
