Dick Sands, the epic of the slave trade, was published in 1878. This depiction of Africa's wilds, its adventures and dangers, as well as the brutal hunting of beasts and mankind, has long been a favourite of Verne's readers. It is devoid of wonders and inventions, instead attempting to transmit two real impressions through exciting situations and deeds.
