Among the missionaries sent into Gaul by S. Fabian, Bishop of Rome, about the year 245, was S. Lucian. He devoted himself to his duties with unwearied diligence, till he was put to death at Beauvais, in the persecution which raged under Julian the Prefect.<br><br>'Tis tardy morning, and the silent fun<br>His course hath just begun;<br>Soft fleecy clouds tinged with the rosebud's hue<br>Herald his coming new,<br>While here and there thin streaks of lingering night<br>Float in the sea of light;<br>The thrilling summons of that scene so sweet<br>Hath roused all nature up the Lord of day to greet.
