But the present work, while more or less indebted in different respects to all these authors, will be found to be in others independent of them all. It is given to the press at the urgent request of many who heard the discourses when delivered; and, such as it is, it is laid at the feet of Him whose sayings it is designed to illustrate, with the prayer that he would use it for the glory of his name, in the edification of his Church, and the Conversion of men.
