A London Mosaic(Illustrated Edition). E-book. Formato PDF Walter Lionel George - Ionlineshopping.Com, 2019 -
Walter Lionel George (20 March 1882, Paris, France – 30 January 1926) was an English writer, chiefly known for his popular fiction, which included feminist, pacifist, and pro-labour themes. Although born of British parents, George grew up in Paris and did not learn English until the age of twenty. His paternal grandfather was Jewish. In 1905 he moved to London, where he became a journalist. The success of his first novel, A Bed of Roses (1911), about a woman's descent into prostitution, allowed him to apply himself full-time to literary efforts. His subsequent books also generally sold well, often requiring more than one edition and appearing on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to novels and short stories, George also wrote literary essays and several political tracts on left-wing themes. He was married three times and widowed twice.
Walter Headlam, His Letters and Poems: With a Memoir by Cecil Headlam, and a Bibliography by L. Haward. E-book. Formato PDF Walter George Headlam - Forgotten Books, 2017 -
Walter George Headlam was born in London upon February 15, 1866.When he died, by a sudden mischance, at the age of forty-two, not Cambridge only, but the world of letters, suffered a loss not easily to be measured. His was a personality singularly complex and exceedingly rare in the history of Intellect. For not only had he made his mark in the academic world as a creative classical critic, who must take his rank with the greatest of the interpreters of Greek thought and language and art, but he combined with the industry and acumen of a scholar the temperament, the individuality, and the achievement of a poet and man of genius. These qualities, rare in the history of literature, still rarer in the history of a university, had made him for the last twenty years one of the most remarkable men in Cambridge. But an individuality such as his, a temperament so intense and many-sided, does not rapidly mature. Time and the experience of years are needed for the harmonising of discordant elements, and the painful working out of a philosophy of life.
Anatole France. E-book. Formato PDF Walter Lionel George - Ionlineshopping.Com, 2019 -
As the First World War raged, W.L. George read all of Anatole France's published works and wrote this little book about them. It's short enough to be easily read in one sitting. He talks us through Anatole's novels, using the words 'mediocre' and 'incoherent' to describe a lot of them.
