Lightfoot had himself made preparations for an edition of Ephesians; but only an introductory Essay and notes on the first fourteen verses have seen the light (biblical Essays, pp. 375 — 396; Notes on Epistles of St Paul, pp. 307 A more solid contribution to the study of the epistle is to be found in Hort's Introductory Lectures (prolegomena to Romans and Ephesians, pp. 63 I have nothing to add to the discussion of the authorship of this epistle which these lectures contain.

Even at the cost of some clumsiness of expression. In the Introduction and Notes I have been at some pains to bring out the indebtedness of Irena-ms to Justin Martyr; and in pursuance of the same end I have devoted a section of the Introduction to the teaching of both these writers in regard to the Holy Spirit.
