When I was ordered out on active service to Ashanti, on the Gold Coast of Africa, I got hold of any books I could find on that country in order to learn something about it before I went there. One of these books was called T ize Story of a Failure. It was by Sir William Butler, the brilliant General and writer of Red Cloud. The story was the story of his own failure, in a previous campaign in Ashanti, to reach Kumasi (the capital) with the force that he commanded.
