It may be here stated that a considerable portion of ancestral history, which could interest only those for whom it was prepared, has been eliminated, and issued separately for their exclusive use. But inasmuch as it seems necessary for the completeness of a biography that there should be some reference to lineage, this has been done in the briefest manner possible. And now, in making his bow to an audience in which, perhaps, many familiar faces may be found, the writer has but to add that if, by those composing it, a tithe of the pleasure is experienced in running over these pages that was afforded him in the task of bringing together what is herein written, he will feel himself amply compensated.
