Titian drawings: colour plates. Ediz. illustrata. E-book. Formato EPUB Maria Peitcheva   -  Maria Peitcheva, 2016  -

Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) was the greatest painter of the Venetian School. Titian was recognized as a towering genius in his own time (Lomazzo described him as the 'sun amidst small stars not only among the Italians but all the painters of the world') and his reputation as one of the giants of art has never been seriously questioned. Drawings by Titian are exceedingly rare. Known in his paintings for exploring the effects of light on surfaces, Titian here showed that he could achieve similar results with line. His meticulous execution and concern for detail suggest the light, space, and variety of physical forms in his drawings. He suggested textures through varying styles of line, carefully and economically placed hatchings even created air with line, as in the atmosphere that envelops the objects. Unfortunately, there are survived only thirty-five to forty known drawings by Titian, though he was a prolific painter.

Tissot: 248 colour plates. E-book. Formato EPUB Maria Peitcheva   -  Maria Peitcheva, 2016  -

Jacques Tissot was born to a middle class family. He initially studied art at Beaux-Arts in Paris. He decided to move to London in 1871. Here Tissot started to paint highly finished pictures of London society. The main criticisms were that the pictures were really only painted photographs, and they were vulgar. In 1876 he met a young and attractive Irish divorcee called Kathleen Newton. She became Tissot’s mistress, and moved into his London home, became Tissot’s muse, and appeared in many of his pictures. She was in every sense the love of his life. In 1882, Kathleen Newton died of consumption. Tissot never recovered from this tragedy, and moved back to Paris within a week of her death .He was never again romantically involved with woman. Initially he carried on painting society and genre pictures in Paris, but soon gave this up, devoting the rest of his life to painting religious scenes. In his late years Tissot became increasingly interested in Spiritualism.

Tiepolo: drawings 135 colour plates. E-book. Formato EPUB Maria Peitcheva   -  Maria Peitcheva, 2016  -

Giambattista Tiepolo was the last of the great Venetian decorators, the purest exponent of the Italian Rococo, and arguably the greatest painter of the 18th century. Tiepolo was equally prized as a draftsman: his powers of invention were boundless and his facility without equal. His enormous output of frescoes and altarpieces was partly due to his practice (like Rubens before him) of painting small 'modelli' which, when approved by the client, could be carried out by his skilled assistants under his own supervision. Scores of these modelli and sketches survive, together with hundreds of drawings. He painted very few portraits. He also etched many plates, and, with Marco Ricci, was one of the founders of the great school of 18-century Venetian etchers.
