Ejzenstejn considerava Walt Disney un "grande artista e maestro", e la sua opera "the greatest contribution of the American people to art". Eisenstein considered Walt Disney a "great artist and master", and his work "the greatest contribution of the American people to art". Between 1940 and 1942, ten years after his ill-fated cinematic experience in Hollywood and Mexico, Eisenstein wrote this particularly inspired essay that is at the same time a tribute to the art of the creator of Mickey Mouse, a technical study of animated cinema, an erudite investigation of the morphology of the fairy tale, a sociological reflection on cinema as an instrument of consolation and elevation for modern man: "for those who are constrained by hours of hard work, regular minutes of rest and the mathematical precision of time; those whose lives are regulated by the 'cent' and the 'dollar'."
