È questa una storia di montagna, di agonismo, di guerra e di campioni, al centro della quale emerge la figura carismatica di Paolo Colò, sergente degli Alpini e uno dei primi atleti entrati a far parte del Nucleo Pattuglie Sci Veloci, il reparto sportivo della Scuola Militare di Aosta che raccoglie tra le sue fila gli atleti azzurri delle discipline alpine e nordiche. L'Angelo Bianco, come viene chiamato, è il cuore di un gruppo di giovani di Abetone, tra questi suo cugino Zeno Colò, il futuro campione olimpico, con cui condivide aspirazioni e sogni. Allo scoppio della Seconda guerra mondiale, i due Colò si ritrovano nello stesso reparto al fronte, dove Paolo deve affrontare un duro destino. Ma la vicenda della compagnia di sciatori continua: dopo l'8 settembre, tra imprese sportive e tragici eventi, si rifugia in Svizzera dove resta in esilio forzato fino al 1945. Attraverso molte fotografie d'epoca, il diario e le lettere di Paolo Colò, Riccardo Crovetti racconta le imprese entusiasmanti e inedite di campioni e di uomini che hanno dato vita a uno sci leggendario.
