This book is dedicated to the celebration of beauty, that ineffable quality that makes a sailboat a "classic" in the true sense of the word. It will try to define, through a selection of significant boats, what is precisely a classic yacht, examining some of the factors that need to be considered: design, materials, vintage, size and builder. The classic sailboats chosen in this volume to represent different categories of boat - from the majestic cutters who competed in the America's Cup at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, to the elegant J Class sloops of the 1930s, passing through the masterpieces Floats designed by William Fife and Nathanael Herreshoff, up to the new "classics" launched in our day - are among the most interesting, most innovative or, simply, most beautiful expressions in the sailing world. Each chapter is dedicated to a particular boat and offers an in-depth analysis of its history, design and nautical and construction features. The final chapter, on the other hand, is dedicated to the "classic" regattas, the main occasions when today you can admire these wonderful yachts as they sail together.
