Gabriele Cavoto graduated from Politecnico of Turin in 2012. He has studied and worked in Italy and abroad, he has been professor assistant at Politecnico of Turin and he has collaborated with Lab. Urb&Com at Politecnico of Milan. His research concerns the decline of large-scale retail sites and the interventions for responding to this trend, with special focus on the Italian context.

In the United States, retail facilities - shopping malls, big box stores and strip malls - have been affected for more than two decades by major failures and decommissioning. These places, once central to the logic of the consumption of American metropolises and now abandoned, testify to the short life cycle of the buildings of commerce and the activities housed in them. However, many of these structures have already been the scene of rather interesting architectural and urban transformations, so-called demalling interventions, which have reactivated disused spaces with functions and uses
