L'impresario in angustie: "L'impresario in angustie" è una farsa per musica composta da Domenico Cimarosa nel 1786 su libretto di Giuseppe Maria Diodati. Fu messa in scena per la prima volta nell'autunno del 1786 al Teatro Nuovo di Napoli insieme ad un'altra breve opera del compositore partenopeo, "Il credulo", che già aveva rappresentato nello stesso teatro poco tempo prima. Fu successivamente data in altre città italiane e nel 1790 con il titolo "L'impresario rovinato" venne messa in scena a Barcellona. Il lavoro cimarosiano ebbe, per molti anni, un successo clamoroso e venne rappresentata in moltissimi teatri europei e spesso tradotta. Anche la musica subì, quasi per ogni rappresentazione, modifiche sostanziali con aggiunte di brani tratti da opere di altri autori, oppure composti, sempre da altri compositori, espressamente per l'adattamento. La drammaturgia subì spesso radicali rifacimenti, trasformando l'opera di volta in volta, e mutandone la struttura in due atti e in tre atti. Il poeta e scrittore tedesco Johann Wolfgang Goethe assistette a una rappresentazione di questa farsa a Roma nel 1787. L'opera, dimenticata per tutto il XIX secolo, tornò in auge a partire dagli Anni '30 del Novecento e venne rappresentata al Teatro Regio di Torino e al Teatro alla Scala di Milano.

It was staged for the first time in the autumn of 1786 at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples together with another short opera by the Neapolitan composer, "Il credulo", which he had already performed in the same theater a short time before. It was later given in other Italian cities and in 1790 under the title "L'impresario rovinato" it was staged in Barcelona. Cimarosi's work was, for many years, a resounding success and was performed in many European theaters and often translated. The music also underwent substantial changes for almost every performance, with the addition of pieces taken from the works of other authors, or composed, again by other composers, expressly for adaptation. The dramaturgy often underwent radical remakes, transforming the work from time to time, and changing its structure into two acts and three acts. The German poet and writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe attended a performance of this farce in Rome in 1787. The opera, forgotten throughout the nineteenth century, came back into vogue in the 1930s and was performed at the Teatro Regio in Turin and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
