Tutto questo comporta una radicale messa in questione di categorie fondamentali dello sviluppo umano (filosofia, lingua, teatro, poesia, l'essere stesso dell'uomo, e ovviamente la musica), delle loro interazioni, dei nessi che le legano, della loro evoluzione storica in reciproco rapporto. Schubert si ritrova, allora, al centro di uno snodo epocale dell'evoluzione dello spirito nel mondo Occidentale, dai Greci al Novecento.
