L'attraversamento del Tevere a Roma tra rinascimento e risorgimento: Quando nel 1876 si iniziò la costruzione dei nuovi argini del Tevere, se da una parte i cosiddetti muraglioni misero in sicurezza la città dai frequenti straripamenti del fiume, dall'altro misero tra parentesi il rapporto diretto che i romani avevano con il loro Tevere. Scorrendo le pagine del libro, ci si immerge quindi in un racconto che ci conduce alternativamente da una riva all'altra del fiume in un periodo nel quale il passaggio non era facile affatto, e rimarrà difficile fino a quando Pio IX Mastai Ferretti (1846-1878) promuoverà la realizzazione dei ponti sospesi. Lavoro esaustivo e notevole, con risultati originali rispetto alle precedenti ricerche di riferimento, sui ponti dinamici, ovvero sulle barche "traiettizie", che venivano usate per attraversare il Tevere a Roma dal Rinascimento al Risorgimento; quando vennero intenzionalmente sostituite da ponti in ferro, anche questi studiati per la durata del loro breve arco di vita. Oltre al modesto merito di aver riavvicinato all'Italia la paternità di una tecnologia efficace e ad oggi comunemente utilizzata nel mondo per lo spostamento di merci e persone, senza consumo di energia che non sia quella gratuita e pulita dei corsi d'acqua, con questo studio è stato per la prima volta sistematicamente ricostruito quel tessuto urbano ricucito dai raffinati piani urbanistici papali, che appendendosi a questi nevralgici e sottilissimi fili, permettevano alla Città Eterna di essere il crocevia dei più vasti e importanti corridoi culturali che l'Umanità abbia conosciuto.
