Vol. 11: D e F: Con questo libro Neri Pozza avvia la prima edizione integrale degli scritti di Leonardo da Vinci, pubblicati secondo l'ordine e la forma dei codici che li conservano. Questo primo volume contiene la trascrizione del manoscritto D, il suo lavoro incompiuto sull'ottica, e del manoscritto F, i densissimi appunti che accompagnano la stesura del suo trattato di cosmologia. Per tutta la sua vita, Leonardo da Vinci stilò un'immensa congerie di appunti, schizzi, trattati tecnici, note di diario, annotazioni scientifiche, favole e allegorie. Gran parte di essi andarono perduti. Il resto fece di lui l'archetipo del "genio multiforme". Ma è stata appunto la sconcertante ricchezza di questo corpus a renderlo finora quasi inaccessibile. L'immagine che per molti si è fissata di Leonardo è infatti quella di un ricercatore incapace di metodicità, inventivo ma sprovveduto. Ciò spiega come, dall'età barocca fino ad oggi, i curatori delle sue opere si siano dedicati a un avvilente lavoro di ritaglio, finendo per offrire al lettore antologie di frammenti estrapolati dal loro contesto. Leonardo invece cercò di dare origine a un sistema filosofico estremamente articolato, in cui la centralità della pittura avrebbe permesso di sovvertire l'ordine cosmico del rinascimento e ricomporre il sistema delle arti liberali. Più di qualunque altro scritto occidentale, i suoi abbozzi palesano i retroscena del gioco enigmatico e audace da cui scaturisce il sapere.
With this book the first complete edition of Neri Pozza start written by Leonardo da Vinci, published in the order and form of codes that keep them. This first volume contains the transcription of the manuscript D, his unfinished manuscript on optics, and F, the super-thick notes that accompany the writing of his treatise on Cosmology. Throughout his life, Leonardo da Vinci drew up an immense mass of notes, sketches, technical treatises, scientific journal notes, annotations, fables and allegories. Most of them were lost. The rest made him the archetype of the "multifaceted genius". But it was precisely the staggering wealth of this body to make it so far almost inaccessible. The image that for many it is fastened by Leonardo is in fact to a researcher unable to methodicalness, inventive but careless. This explains how, from the Baroque age until today, the editors of his works were dedicated to a demeaning job of cropping, only to offer the reader anthologies of snippets taken out of context. Leonardo instead sought to give rise to a philosophical system extremely articulate, in which the centrality of painting would subvert the cosmic order of the Renaissance and reconstruct the system of liberal arts. More than any other Western, its written sketches reveal the secrets behind the enigmatic and audacious game from which flows the knowledge.
