I teatri storici della provincia di Torino. Ediz. illustrata: La sera dell'11 gennaio 1821 Carlotta Marchionni della Compagnia Reale Sarda recita sul palcoscenico del torinese teatro d'Angennes. Quattro studenti si presentano fra il pubblico indossando un berretto frigio rosso con fiocco nero: i colori della Carboneria. Arrivano i Reali Carabinieri e arrestano i giovani. L'indomani l'Università è occupata, interviene l'esercito, scoppiano gli scontri e la protesta si diffonde in tutto il Regno: sono i moti del 1821. Ecco, tra i tanti, solo un esempio di quanto il teatro e i suoi luoghi siano stati protagonisti del risorgimento nazionale. Ai tempi del Risorgimento i teatri furono luogo di comunicazione per eccellenza. Nel cinema o in televisione, quando si racconta per immagini il Risorgimento troviamo in molti casi, come soggetto o come sfondo, un palcoscenico. Tale scelta non risponde solo a esigenze sceniche ma esprime una indubbia verità storica: il Risorgimento è stato anche i suoi teatri, dove non si andava solo per assistere allo spettacolo. Il teatro era luogo politico, dove si metteva in scena non soltanto per l'intrattenimento ma anche per l'educazione del pubblico; il quale, a sua volta, non si tratteneva da clamorose manifestazioni. Le sale possono essere viste come termometro dell'opinione pubblica e terreno di agitazione ideologica, tale da suscitare il sospettoso interesse delle autorità costituite.
