Trattato elementare di elettricità: Iniziato nel 1875, due anni dopo la pubblicazione del più oneroso Treatise, il Trattato elementare di elettricità resta incompiuto, per la prematura scomparsa dell'autore nel 1879. Viene in seguito completato e rivisitato, anche sulla base del Treatise stesso, dall'amico Garnett che lo pubblica infine nel 1881. Con risultati di assoluto rilievo: si tratta di un 'aureo libretto' in tutto e per tutto degno di figurare accanto al prezioso Matter and Motion e al discusso Theory of Heat. Con la sua impostazione intende ridurre al massimo gli oneri matematici presenti nel Treatise, così da avere in cambio la possibilità di meglio focalizzare la fisica sottostante. In questo senso, per esplicito intendimento di Maxwell, l'aggettivo 'elementare' va inteso nel senso preciso proprio degli Elementi euclidei: l'essenza ed il fondamento. Maxwell, sensibile alle letture geometriche della fisica, fu affascinato dagli Elementi di Euclide, ai quali sempre si ispirò. Nell'attesa di pubblicare una seconda e riveduta edizione del Treatise, gli argomenti di questo volume espressero appieno il suo orientamento metodologico. Per la prima volta in traduzione italiana, il Trattato elementare di elettricità è preceduto da quattro scritti sulla vita e il lavoro di James Clerk Maxwell di Adriano Paolo Morando.
Started in 1875, two years after the publication of more onerous Treatise, the elementary treatise electricity remains unfinished, to the untimely death of the author in 1879. Is then completed and revisited, even on the basis of the Treatise itself, by his friend Garnett who publishes it finally in 1881. With significant results: this is a ' gold standard ' booklet in all respects worthy to appear beside the valuable Matter and Motion and discussed Theory of Heat. With its plan to minimize the burdens mathematicians in Treatise, so that in return the ability to better focus the underlying physics. In this sense, for explicit understanding of Maxwell, the adjective ' elementary ' should be understood in the precise sense of Euclidean Elements: the essence and the Foundation. For the first time in Italian translation, the elementary treatise electricity is preceded by four written on the life and work of James Clerk Maxwell of Adriano Paolo Morando.
