Il design costruisce mondi. Design e narrazioni: Il pensiero progettante costruisce nuovi mondi. La sua azione non coincide mai con il semplice rappresentare, nel senso del riprodurre per mimesi l'esistente, ma ha piuttosto a che fare con il presentare, costruire, dare forma. Il progetto costruisce nuovi mondi intesi non solo come nuovi universi materiali ma anche come nuovi universi di senso. E, nel fare questo, mette in atto tutte quelle azioni di adattamento, avvicinamento, "ancoraggio" del nuovo alla capacità di comprensione dei sistemi sociali. L'innovazione introdotta dal design appartiene infatti, prima ancora che alla dimensione materiale, alla dimensione simbolica e cognitiva e gli oggetti che da essa derivano sono, prima ancora che oggetti materici e tecnologici, oggetti culturali o, per dirla con Mauss, "fatti sociali totali".
