The first laws to prohibit any behaviour are born in the United States in 1890, restrictive of free trade, but it will take a long time before they are codified in a real system of rules. In Europe the competition rules established after the second world war with the creation of the European Community; in Italy the establishment of the competition authority and the market is only in 1990. The volume traces the stages of this long history, and explains the purpose and procedure for the application of antitrust laws bearing in mind also the latest EU regulations drafted during the integration process.
