Da una profonda solitudine esistenziale si indirizzano a una destinataria che esisteva soltanto nel desiderio struggente di Remarque. Ma Remarque le aveva scritte - e in ciò sta il segreto della loro delicata e profondamente toccante malinconia - in fondo per se stesso, come una sorta di soliloquio con un sogno a occhi aperti.
